Farm Fresh Sod to Your Family Since 2007

Benefits of Sod

1. A sod lawn produces an “instant lawn”. The most popular benefit to sodding is the fact that there is no lingering wait to be able to enjoy a gorgeous green yard.  When you sod, you are getting a huge head-start to be able to use your lawn for regular activities like playing or entertaining.  A seed or sprigged yard takes a significant amount of time to grow in (typically 18 months), leaving your yard looking bare and unattractive.  Sodding is usually ready for heavy activity after two weeks, allowing it to be a fast lawn- planting option that adds immediate beauty to your home’s outdoor space.

2. Once installed, sod requires less irrigation. Newly planted sod should typically be watered twice a day for the first couple of weeks.  Seeding a lawn can require up to four or more waterings per day to maintain the ground with the necessary moisture required for proper seed germination.  This can be costly and time-consuming.

3. Sod makes for a denser lawn. When sodding, pieces are fit tightly together to get a lush, even lawn.  There are no bare spots in a sodded yard that would require extra work, like reseeding for example.

4. Sod prevents soil erosion.  Upon sod installation, because it is already fully mature, sod controls dust, mud, and erosion.  Sodded turfgrass is a quick and excellent filter of dirt and dust from your home.

Our Varieties

The Grass & Rock Shoppe specializes in the sales of warm season turf grasses, including Bermuda, Zoysia, Centipede and St. Augustine. We pride ourselves on our record of outstanding service along with the quality of product we provide to you.

Palmetto St. Augustine

Palmetto St. Augustine, a grass discovered and developed on a sod farm in central Florida, thrives across the southern United States, from Florida northward to coastal Virginia and westward to California, under a wide range of climatic and soil conditions, making it an ideal choice for residential and commercial use. Palmetto has an outstanding emerald green color that is truly eye catching. It performs well in full sun yet thrives in shaded areas where other grasses fail. Palmetto St. Augustine requires 3-4 hours of direct sunlight per day. It is cold hardy to near 0° F, classifying it as one of the most cold hardy St. Augustine varieties available. It is also frost tolerant and holds fall and winter color longer than Bermuda, Centipede, or other St. Augustine cultivars. It will remain evergreen in some areas of the deep South. Palmetto St. Augustine also has a massive root system, making it drought tolerant once established.

Celebration Bermuda Grass

Celebration is a blue-green Bermuda grass that offers practical advantages over other Bermuda grass varieties. Celebration has rated best in research studies for drought tolerance, drought recovery, shade and wear tolerance, and divot recovery. With its soft texture and striking blue-green color, Celebration Bermuda Grass is a great choice for your lawn or sports field.

Centipede Grass

Centipede grass is native to China and Southeast Asia. It was first introduced into the United States circa 1916 from seed collected by Frank N. Meyer in South China. Centipede grass has since become widely grown in the southeastern United States from South Carolina to Florida and westward along the Gulf Coast states and Texas. Well suited for low pH soils, Centipede is a slow-growing grass that needs very little fertilizer. It has a medium to light green color, and many consider it to be the lowest maintenance of the warm season grasses.

Tifway 419

Tifway 419 is a dense, fine-textured, hybrid Bermuda grass. This warm-season turfgrass requires full sun, and has a good heat tolerance, wear resistance and will recover quickly if damaged. Tifway 419 is an excellent choice for home lawns in the northern part of the transition zone between cool and warm season grass. It is ideal for use on golf courses, sport fields, and commercial sites.

Empire Zoysia

Empire zoysia is a medium-bladed, dark green zoysia grass that features excellent wear tolerance, requires less mowing and chemical applications and is chinch bug resistant. More importantly, empire Turf allows the water supply to be shut off in severe periods of drought without the danger of permanently harming the lawn. Empire Turf. One lawn. Many benefits.
